HBCU Student Development Framework™

Research shows persistent socioeconomic inequality is putting America's future at risk. Our nation's outdated approach to preparing students for success is both an outcome, and driver of this national crisis.

We believe student capability building, led by our nation’s most resilient community — Black youth, is key to moving America forward. So in 2019, HBCU First launched the HBCU Student Development Framework™.

The HBCU Student Development Framework (HBCU SDF) is a capability-building model for Black youth helping students (1) navigate the college-to-career journey and (2) bridge the gap between learning and doing.

HBCU SDF is driven by several student-led internship programs including: the HBCU Leadership Incubator, HBCU Near-Peer Mentoring Program, and Equity in Data and Research.
