About HBCU First

We believe Black youth are key to furthering our nation's prosperity.
So in 2019, HBCU First did two things to support our future leaders:
(1) we built an online resource center for college-bound Black youth
(2) we developed the nation's only national HBCU Exploratory Program

Our mission is to help underrepresented youth lead America forward — economically and socially. HBCU First promises students of color, and those who support them, a greater sense of purpose and a better view of how they fit into the world.

Our name "HBCU First" was born from our belief that HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) should be the first choice of college-bound Black youth. HBCU First was established in 2019 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our values & principles — Collaboration, Agility, Service, and Accuracy (CASA) — guide how we approach our work and partnerships.
Collaboration: We believe in the power of synergy and seek to form & grow productive relationships with all who are in (and for) the HBCU community.

Agility: We take an iterative approach to developing our programs & resources, and actively seek input from students, partners, and supporters.

Service: We lead by best supporting those we serve. We pursue our mission with a consistent sense of urgency and patriotism.

Accuracy: We believe facts, context, and details matter. We strive to get it right & to be fair by avoiding bias and thoroughly researching all of our work product.
